How to Use the Media Library

The media library is where you keep images for pages, posts, and brand assets. Upload once, then reuse.

1. Open Media Library

Log in and open your website.

Go to Customise Website, then click Media Library.

2. Upload a file

Click upload and choose an image from your computer.

Use a clear file name so you can find it later.

Prefer compressed images so pages stay fast.

3. Choose the right file and size

For photographs, use JPEG or WebP. For interface screenshots and graphics that need crisp edges, use PNG or WebP. Use SVG only for trusted vector assets such as logos or icons. Animated GIF files can be large; prefer a properly hosted video when motion is important.

Upload images close to the largest size they will actually display. A full-width guide image usually needs more detail than a small card thumbnail, but an oversized original slows processing and page delivery. If an image upload is rejected, compress it or convert it to WebP before trying again.

SDP’s direct video-upload flow supports videos under 200 MB. Larger videos require a different upload method, so compress or host them appropriately before adding them to a page.

4. Add useful alt text

Alt text should explain the purpose of an informative image in the context of the page. Keep it concise and avoid phrases such as “image of.” For decorative images, use empty alt text when the field allows it so screen readers can skip them.

  • Good: SDP Platform redirect settings showing source and destination fields
  • Avoid: Screenshot or a file name such as image-123.png

5. Reuse it in content

When you edit a page or post, open the image field and pick a file from the library.

Use the same logo and photos across pages instead of uploading copies.

6. Replace or remove media safely

To replace an image in content, select the new library asset in that page or component field and publish the change. Before deleting a library item, check where it is used: removing the library record does not guarantee that every existing page reference is repaired automatically.

Remove only assets that are no longer referenced. Then check the affected live pages for broken images and keep descriptive file names so duplicates are easier to avoid.

Pro-Tip

After you upload a logo, set it in How to Set Your Logo and Favicon.
