How to Block Traffic with the Firewall

The firewall lets you block unwanted visitors by IP address or country. Use the narrowest rule that solves the problem.

In the dashboard this screen is called Blacklisted Countries/Ips.

1. Open the firewall

Log in and open your website.

Firewall controls
Dashboard view: Use Firewall to review and block unwanted traffic.

Go to Advanced, then click Firewall or Blacklisted Countries/Ips.

2. Add a rule

Click Add Item.

Choose Type:

IP Address to block one visitor or bot, such as 8.8.8.8

Country Code to block a region, such as US or KE

Enter the Value and save. You should see Firewall rule saved successfully.

3. Edit or remove a rule

Use Edit to change a value.

Use the trash button to delete a rule you no longer need.

4. Check the impact

Confirm the unwanted traffic stops.

Make sure real customers can still open the site.

If you blocked the wrong people, delete or narrow the rule right away.

Pro-Tip

Start with an IP rule. Use a country block only when you must. Review the list now and then and remove old rules. For more on this feature see Blacklist Countries & IPs.
